Picking the RIGHT AC Filter for you and your home...
Most air filters range in size from 1 inch thick, but some systems can accommodate filters 2 to 5 inches.
In our experience, we have found that the thicker the filter, the better it works and the longer the replacement intervals.
That means it’s better for you pocket book
and for your HVAC system.
Air Filter Pros and Cons

What are the Pros?
With the proper maintaining any HVAC system, the regular changing of filters should be easy and on a regular basis. Not all filters provide the same benefits, there are filters made of Fiberglass, Pleated Re-enforced Fabric and some can be electronically charged.

Air filters do come in a range of standard sizes, with a few that can adapt to fit different-sized filter-box or return-air openings.

What are the Cons?
There really arent any Cons, other then if you dont change your filter regularly. It can lead to low air flow, low air quality and unwanted wear on your system. Overall shorting the life of your system.

Thicker the Filter the better
Now if you are wanting to use a thicker filter, you will need to check your filter rack on your system first. Because for thicker filters to fit, you may possibly need to have your filter rack modified to accommodate the larger size filters.

a in-home inspection.

When should I change my Filter?
Most manufactures recommend that you check your filter monthly. Depending on the filter type you choose, usually look to replace the filter once every three months. Now this really depends on your home and your environment. With thicker and pleated filters, you might be able to get 6 months or more use out of them prior to being needed to be changed.
